A Dancer’s Guide to Inventory

Random Rants now tells me why most guys on SL look so awful. If you plan your inventory correctly, you will not be lugging a trunk around and you will look stylish all the time. Trust me – a Dancer’s inventory includes Costumes too, so it is huge! And forget “Outfits” – how quaint is that? We are not small children having our wardrobe arranged by Mummy. A real Fashionista has flexibility and my method allows you wear bits of one garment with bits of another. And pleeeeassssse never the same shoes every day – that’s naff!!

You need a basic folders: Clothing, Jewels, Lingerie, Shoes & Boots, Sleep & Beach, and Stockings. I put a’ C” in front of each name to keep them together with the basic “Clothing Folder” and you can get to each folder very quickly. I store hair completely separately and it is arranged by maker/style/colour. And a warning! – Store your shapes skins and eyes in a folder at the bottom of the Inventory called Xtremely important.

When you buy something new, open it and put on each piece to see what you have. Then delete the notecards and extra LMs once you have read them or moved them to the correct folder.

Now rename. It goes like this: Name of Designer/Garment /Colour. Here’s an example: Redgrave/Bikers Boots /Brown and it goes into the Shoes & Boots Folder. Always do it straight away so you don’t forget, as this will stop the LMs building up. And make sure you delete all the asterisks and exclamation marks that get added to the labels – so annoying!

Any jewels are renamed with Designer/Related Garment /Colour and stored in the Jewels Folder. This means my brilliant “ A La Folie” jewels set that came with the Andalusia outfit can be got quickly and added to a black dress.

I also have a Costumes folder especially for Ambrosia. You won’t catch me around the grid in some of the G-strings I wear for work. This one is easy – I generally rename with only the description, so this weekend I will need Bunny Costume. If I get more than one type of Costume, I start a sub folder so there is Xmas/Red Santa and Xmas/Sexy Elf. The only difference is that every part of the costume is stored, shoes, stocking, jewels, ears etc and the notecard, and LM too as I want to remember where these garments were bought.

So that’s how a Pro does it, and once last thing – if it’s crap delete it or put it in a separate Scraps Folder – you never know when you will need a spare pair of flexi – knickers.

Editors Note – These women clearly do not understand the basic organizational nature of men. PK
