Occasionally people will send me notecards telling me that they came and visited the club after a long hiatus and that it seems like Ambrosia has lost the magic it once had in the past. I received a rather lengthy one the other day and would like to share an excerpt.
“A few days ago I was talking with another avi and we discovered that we were “regulars” in Ambrosia (he also like me!) with our newbie -zombies…a long time ago. From the time that Ambro was in Sabra SIM :-)
Well as I doin often, this guy has always in his mind the good times that we lived there, with those great events, the contests, the crazyness Sploder, with many-many regulars and our friends and the “homey” feeling of that flying “skybox market” place in Sambra :-)Every time I visit Ambrosia now, since you made those changes and became a flying market again, I have that strange magic feeling…..that’s something missing.”
Well the reply I make to a lot of these comments I get, and I do get them occasionally is that Ambrosia really has not changed. Really, it is the person writing that has changed. The club is essentially the same in layout and format as it was when it first opened. It’s just a different cast of characters. If the magic is missing for you, well then that magic was the group of people who you associated with in 2007. Most of them are either off of SL by this point or are into other things. A few of them have remained of course, myself included.
The real truth behind Ambrosia is not about the DJ or the contests or whatever is happening. It’s the people who make Ambrosia. There is now an entirely new group of people creating their own set of magic and they love Ambrosia. In a few years time they may send me a note saying “Oh, Phil you have lost the magic…I miss the old Ambrosia.” And it will not be the old Ambrosia that they miss. It will be their SL youth and exuberance.
So like a fine Broadway Play, Ambrosia will continue but with a different set of actors and an entire new audience. And if you enjoyed the show last time you were in the venue it’s possible that you will like it with the new cast as well. It won’t be the same of course because that’s the way it is. The only constant in life is change.
That this place is still completely successful is born out by the numbers. Yesterday brought us 545 unique visitors and we have the highest ratings in history.
As for contests, they were gamed and people lost interest in them. Sploders are illegal. And there are far more “regulars” now then when we used to have traffic ratings in the 5000s.
Therefore, the only thing really missing is “you”.
Phil
