Ambrosia Dance Club

Our friends at Linden Lab have announced that it has acquired two websites that savvy Ambrosians use : XStreet SL and OnRez. Terms of the deals were not disclosed.

A smart business move on the Linden’s part since people buy their Lindens from XstreetSL to take advantage of the better exchange rate.

According to Linden Labs, They have no immediate plans “to shut down or modify the Xstreet SL Linden Dollar exchange or the Linden Lab Lindex Linden Dollar exchange.  We would not expect exchange rates to be affected and there is no reason to think that they would be.”  Well so they say.

It appears that they will be shutting down the  OnRez marketplace on February 11, 2009 leaving Xstreet SL as the sole web purveyor for goods inside SL.

For Xstreet SL shoppers, no action is necessary as your balances and account information will be unaffected. OnRez shoppers and vendors have till feb 11th to transfer their balances.

And we love noobs. Without them how could we feel good about spending 2000 Lindens on a skin and shape, 1200 L for a pair of boots and 500 L for talking nipples?

And always keep in mind that in a few weeks time Sonya can come back as a shreiking fashion Nazi.  It has happened in the past.

People come in to the Ambrosia Dance Club from dozens of nations.  The common language spoken is usually English due to the preponderance of North Americans.  There are many clubs out there that cater to a variety of nationalities such as German, French, Peruvian and Laplander.  However, it is generally expected in most SL clubs that one will communicate with other people in English.

So here is the scenario. There are 15 people in the club conversing in English or some form of it. Then two people will enter the club and start jabbering to each other in open chat using an obscure language that no one understands.  If no one around you understands your language would it not be better to just go into IM?

It is hard to explain this bit of etiquette without offending people and having them say “What you do think that english language is the better?”

And what if they wont respond because they don’t understand English? Sometimes I try to test them out by saying something like “Welcome to Ambrosia – Help yourself to the free lindens by the door”

If they don’t respond it can generally be assumed that you have 100% non-english speaking avatars on your hand.  Or they could be busting your nuts.  Its hard to tell sometimes.

SO how exactly do you tell someone to STFU and go into IM if they don’t understand English?  It’s a dilemma that has yet to be solved.  Until then, we will have to endure conversations that look like this.
