The following is posted from the Emerald Viewer Blog. Apparently the Emerald Viewer will be no more. Read on.

The End

This is the end, beautiful friend
This is the end, my only friend, the end
It hurts to set you free
But you’ll never follow me
The end of laughter and soft lies
The end of night we tried to die
This is the end

United we stand and divided we fall. Thus ends the final days of the Emerald Project.

Approximately 10 days ago I and a number of devs came together to reform the Emerald Team in the anxious hope of continuing the most popular TPV in Second Life. The incredible driving passion, flair for innovation, endless energy and camaraderie were all still there. Because of this, I was sure we could make this work.

Alas this was not to be. Linden Lab has made demands of the team that are impossible to meet. Among the demands not listed publicly elsewhere was to publicly release an RC without any ability to load the emkdu or llkdu files. This was do-able. The final demand was to ‘delete’ 3 key members of our team. While making this demand, Linden Lab was quite aware that this was effectively the guillotine to the project.

This is the opportunity for a fork project to develop and create a TPV version of snowstorm, which is what Linden Lab really wants. I am aware of a number of small projects underway now, and I wish them the best, the very best in their endeavors.

For you, the user, what this means is that there will not be any further releases of the Emerald Viewer after today. The existing releases will continue to operate until Linden Lab decides to terminate their access and end Emerald once and for all.

There will be one final version of the Emerald Viewer released here later today; that is, the viewer we’ve been working on for the past six months. It would be a shame to let the efforts of the developers who put so many unpaid hours into this project go to waste.

This virtual world is ever changing and must be, otherwise it will stagnate. This incredible environment will continue.

- Because there was no consensus amongst the developers about whether or not to comply with Linden Lab’s requirement to remove three core developers, Lonely Bluebird offered to leave the Emerald project only if the team voted for this. Rather than wait for any kind of vote, a hostile takeover was attempted by a portion of the Dev Team trying to gain unauthorized access to the emerald servers without knowledge of the others (including me, the server owner).

- the vote eventually took place, with a minority even voting. This few that voted did not all vote in favour of removing Lonely Bluebird. The vote took place after the takeover failed, for forms sake

- Linden Lab has made it abundantly clear and in fact stated quite bluntly that they want Emerald numbers, which at this point in time number around 50% of total Second Life logins. These have been the stats for some months now.

- The primary issue that resulted in the demise of Emerald was the attempted and failed takeover of the project, far in advance of any requirements deadline set by Lindenlab. This hostile takeover was initiated by Jessica Lyon.

Draw your own conclusions. I say its Kaput.

TMI

Second Life is a wonderful platform for social interaction. We learn so much about others from all over the world. Sometimes way too much. What is it that compels people to share graphic details of their real lives with others who they know little about? I am talking about that dread affliction known by its acronym TMI – Too Much Information.

How do you know if you suffer from the effects of this dread disease? If you say lines like the following its quite possible you suffer from TMI Syndrome. Potential cure lines follow.

TMI – OMFG My master bedroom is infested with lice and I have to leave to stay town and stay at the Motel 6 in Fernville while the fumigators put a tent over my house and gas it so pass it along that I wont be online a lot.

Cure -I will be out of town for a few days. Catch you on my laptop!

TMI – I have 5 kids the oldest Bobby just got out of prison and has to wear a darn bracelet around his leg and he just walked within 1000 yards of a school zone and now the police are over at my house and they are going to take him in so i have to run for a bit.

Cure – Brb

TMI – In my country we take the snakes and hang them on a silken rope outside the village and then ritualistically beat them with sticks. After they dry for 3 days we take them down and they are placed in earthenware vessels and cooked at the Aa’Rean which is the center of the village as the women wail and utter lamentations while throwing dust over their heads. then we gather to eat them. It is much delicious i must tell you.

Cure – I like to party and eat delicacies.

TMI – I think my cat is dead. Let me check, yep he’s dead. I have to find a plastic bag. Well you knew it was coming. Lord Percival was always anemic and my other cats would always avoid him and you know when you have 40 cats you will always have the social outcast. Oh well so how is your day going.

Cure – Hey whats up.

TMI – Do you have a minute? I have to show you something. I ate about 5 pounds of lasagna last night and I just took a dump and I swear to you that it looks just like an Eastern Diamondback Rattlesnake. I have to upload a picture for you. Brb.

Cure – Would you like to see some nature photography?

So what is TMI. It is the dissemination of information about your life that is totally useless to others and puts a mental image of you in their minds that is unpleasant at best and totally horrific at worst. Avoid TMI and have a better public image!

Everybody Dance Now

Friday night was slamming at the club. DJ Javier, “The Candyman”, primed the pump with a smoking set of hard driving rock. But the party really swung in to high gear around 9 PM when there were 63 avatars in the sim. If you wonder what that looks like Ambrosia Dancer Roselle shot this from her perch on the stage. When DJ Ringo took the stage at 10 PM the place was still packed and Ringo kept it that way till Midnight with his specially made dance mixes.

Surprisingly, no one was pushing or shoving on the dance floor and everyone was having a great time partying Ambrosia style with the hot dancers who worked hard to keep the fire exits clear at all times. And this is supposed to be the slow season? What’s going to happen when people retreat to their bear’s dens to ride out the winter months? Hold on to your hats, its going to be a wild ride.
